Notes: Prince isn’t physically in First Avenue on this night but his influence is unmistakable. Glen tells a story about watching “Purple Rain” countless times at age 10, and shares how the previous night they were at local jazz club Dakota and while Graham sat in with the band, they noticed Prince himself watching from the balcony (this story is as nearly as hilarious as Charlie Murphy’s Prince Basketball story from the Chapelle Show). Add to that the ‘Sexy MF’ and ‘Sign o’ the Times’ teases, as well as an epic full-band cover of ‘The Cross’ (a popular cover from Glen’s busking days), and capping it off with a ‘When Doves Cry’ reference from Mic during ‘The Auld Triangle’, Prince’s purple presence is definitely felt by those in attendance.
