Colm discusses the influence of “Fisherman’s Blues”
Today FM’s Fiachna Ó Braonáin hosts Poetic Champions Compose – a celebration of classic Irish albums ‘championed’ by Ireland’s leading contemporary artists.
Go here & jump down to the one with Paddy Casey talking about The Waterboys’ “Fisherman’s Blues”. The whole thing is really interesting, and Colm shows up around minute 34. Each of the shows is really cool actually, have a listen through when you’ve got the time.
A Sense of Place with World Cafe
In December 2011, NPR’s ‘World Cafe’ featured Dublin in its ‘Sense of Place’ series. There is an audio portion here and then Glen takes host David Dye on a little walking musical tour of the city. See part 1 of 8 below. Click here to see the other 7 videos!
Throughout the week, World Cafe travels to Dublin, Ireland — the first stop in a quarterly series called Sense of Place. We hope to give you an idea of the past and present of the city’s local music scene and provide tips from musicians and music lovers for those hoping to visit this culturally rich town.
One More For The Road: a short film about Road Records
This year found the release of a fantastic short documentary film about Dublin’s legendary, and sadly, shuttered, record shop Road Records.
In 1997 two record shop employees, frustrated with the lack of available vinyl records & inspired by the music being created all around Ireland, decided to open a small independent record shop in Dublin.
Over the course of the next 13 years Road Records became a much-loved fixture in Dublin & gained the attention & trust of the Irish & international music scene, helping many artists to find their feet and grow.
